ADOPT A BEACH ACCESS PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
Leave No Trace (LNT) began in the 1960’s and 70’s as commercial interest increased in outdoor recreation. Through the 80’s and 90’s the Boy Scouts of America championed LNT ideals and the US Forest Service developed an national education program based on the LNT framework.
Fast forward to 2020, North Carolina, through Visit NC, became the first Coastal State in the Country to partner with Leave No Trace. In 2021 Ocean Isle Beach, through the Ocean Isle Property Owners Association (OIPOA), joined the Leave No Trace Program as one of the first coastal communities to do so. As a community, we can be so proud of this accomplishment!
The first initiative of this partnership is our “Adopt a Beach Access” program, whereby each of Ocean Isle’s 30+ Beach Accesses will be adopted (sponsored) by a local business, organization or individuals
and cleaned by their group of volunteers. The OIPOA solicits for sponsorship through their vast network and, once signed up, assigns a beach access to them for annual maintenance. Beach Cleanup is an annual agreement which includes periodic clean up activities. The OIPOA provides gloves and trash bags for each group for the duration of the agreement.
At the Beach Accesses, signage recognizing the individual or business will be provided by the OIPOA and will feature the Leave No Trace logo and the OIPOA logo along with a personalized logo as requested by the sponsor. We are so proud to be a partner of the LNT organization and so thrilled with the tremendous community response we have received from local businesses and/or individuals. We want to share our sponsor’s work and the program's success and request photos and/or videos from each clean up activity to feature them on our Social Media outlets and to include in our monthly OIPOA newslett
