ADOPT A BEACH ACCESS PROGRAM
FAQs
What is the main responsibility of a sponsor once they adopt a beach access?
Performing periodic trash clean up activities of the beach access area - including the parking lot (if applicable), ramp/stairs/walkway to the beach, the beach itself from the dunes to the water and from the walkway entrance down to the next access to the right of your adopted access. Most beach accesses are within 1,000 feet of each other. If some are larger, you are only responsible for the first 1,000 feet.
Who can adopt/sponsor a beach access?
Any merchant or individual/family that can fulfill the commitment of periodic trash clean up activities throughout the year may adopt/sponsor a beach access.
How long is the commitment?
Sponsorship for the beach access is for one year minimum.
Why should I consider adoption of a beach access?
Part of what makes Ocean Isle Beach (OIB) special are the volunteers and the fine work they do to protect and preserve the area. Volunteerism is an expression of how much we care. If you love OIB too, volunteer to get involved with an Ocean Isle Beach event or activity like the Leave No Trace Program. It’s a great way to learn more about the culture, history and natural environment, and meet some cool people along the way. Whether your interests are sea turtles, or shorelines and surfing, you’re sure to find like-minded people dedicating their time and energy to the cause. You can also get closer to the beating heart of OIB by working with other volunteers who are lending a hand as environmental stewards to keep our island pristine.
If I decide to sponsor a beach access, who must I contact?
If interested, please send an email to OIPOANC@gmail.com or reach out to any of the Directors on the Board of the OIPOA to let them know of your interest. Who takes care of the sign posted at the beach?
The OIPOA will work with you on your design and will purchase and post the sign once created. As a reminder, we’d love a picture of you by your sign once posted. Please send it to OIPOANC@gmail.com
If I decide to sponsor a beach access, what beach access am I responsible for?
